What is Intensive Interaction ?<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

It aims at developing and building the fundamental pre-verbal skills.<\/span><\/h4>\n

It is based on research looking at mother\/carer and baby interaction.<\/span><\/h4>\n

It’s a non directive, child led approach.<\/span><\/h4>\n

    Develop attention span.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n

    Develop shared attention.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n

    Learn to understand looking towards a person.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n

    Learn to understand and use facial expression.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n

    Learn to take turns.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n

    Start to use vocalisations with meaning.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n

    Realise that you can have an effect on others.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    HOW DO YOU DO IT?<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Observe – how the child behaves, moves (including whole body movements), vocalises and interacts with the world.<\/span><\/h4>\n

    Use imitation (copy) – mirroring of behaviours, exaggerated styles, intuitive responses, spontaneity, creativity, playfulness and interactive games.<\/span><\/h4>\n
