How can we measure progress for our children with ASD ?

🔹 What is SCERTS ?

SCERTS stands for:

  • EREmotional Regulation

  • TSTransactional Support

🧩 Developmental Stages

Social Partner  (0–18 months developmental level)

  • Communicates through gestures and vocalizations (pre-symbolic).

Language Partner (18 months – 3.5 years)

  • Uses early symbolic communication:

    • Single spoken words

    • Sign language

    • Picture symbols

Conversation Partner (3.5+ years)

  • Demonstrates more advanced language:

    • Full sentences

    • Conversations

    • Awareness of others in social interactions

🎯 SCERTS Goals by Developmental Stage

For social partner targets

  • Initiating interaction by drawing your attention (e.g. pulling your hand to show something).

  • Imitating words or actions they observe.

For language partner targets

  • Using signs or key words to initiate and sustain interaction.

  • Requesting food, objects, or activities.

  • Commenting on events or surroundings.

  • Asking for help when needed.

💡What motivates your child ?

Try completing the worksheet and consider how these motivators can be integrated into your child’s daily routine.

🧪 Exemple Daily Scenario

  • The teacher marks your child as present.

  • Your child sits calmly at their workstation, equipped with their materials, and completes tasks silently.

  • Afterward, you guide them to the bathroom.

  • Then, you help them put on their coat and go outside for play.

  • You both wait by the fence where you hand out fruit.
